Cache site supply list
Storage containers for supplies must be water tight, secure from vandals, and if possible kept cool. Cargo containers or tuff sheds are great for storage of your supplies. Containers should be located on a paved, level surface, away from hazards, preferably in a shaded area with all items inside secured from ground shaking. Local fire departments should have a key to the storage container for access to supplies. An agreement to replace the supplies with equal or better quality materials should be executed with the local Fire Department.

Emergency equipment cache
Scouting, Labor Unions and other volunteer or youth groups often need community service projects to satisfy one or more requirements for advancement through their own programs. AVERT has prepared the following plans to help your CERT team develop your emergency/disaster cache while also providing volunteer and community service opportunities for others in your neighborhood. The plans presented below were designed to be installed in an 8 ft X 8 ft X 20 ft Land-Sea Container.

EMERGENCY FOOD STORAGE
Food is as important as water for post disaster survival. Psychologists believe that people who have experienced a severe emotional trauma may give up on life and can die from the depression which follows. A normal and healthy diet can lessen the emotional trauma of a disaster. Therefore, we recommend that people store emergency food supplies that are as close as possible to their normal fare. The food must be of a type that stores well. The minimum time that food should be able to last without refrigeration is 6 months.

Storage of Emergency Supplies
Some families prefer to store their emergency supplies in one location. Choose a place in your home which would be relatively safe in time of an earthquake (such as a closet or under a bed). The perishable supplies will remain stable longer if stored in a cool, dark location.
