Biography

I have dedicated over three decades of my life to serving my community through various non-profit organizations, faith-based initiatives, and local government positions. My journey began at the College of DuPage, where I worked for 28 years, ultimately retiring as a Conflict Resolution Specialist. Throughout my career, I’ve been deeply involved in creating inclusive and supportive environments, whether through designing high-tech multimedia classrooms or leading committees aimed at improving institutional climate.

My commitment to service extends beyond my professional life. For many years, I’ve volunteered at St. John Newman Church, where I have led youth groups, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and coordinated mental health ministries. I also actively participate in the Midwest and National Associations of Housing Cooperatives, holding leadership roles that empower individuals to foster cooperative living arrangements.

My life is enriched by my family, consisting of four children and eleven grandchildren, which inspires my dedication to nurturing strong community bonds and upholding family values. I believe that the strength of these connections is vital to fostering resilient and thriving communities.

Values and Beliefs

At the core of my work is a profound belief in the power of faith, community, and service. I am guided by principles of compassion, integrity, and the importance of collaborative relationships. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard, to grow, and to contribute positively to society. My faith serves as the foundation for all my endeavors, motivating me to act selflessly and to uplift those around me.

I firmly believe that true service is about meeting people where they are and helping them fulfill their potential. This belief guides my approach to conflict resolution, training, and mentorship, giving me the tools to empower others on their journeys.

One of the most memorable experiences in my service journey occurred during my time as a trainer for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). I remember leading a training session where participants shared their fears and concerns about emergencies in their neighborhoods. By the end of the workshop, not only had they learned valuable skills, but they also formed a bond of unity and support. Witnessing their transformation—from hesitant individuals to a cohesive team ready to respond—reinforced my belief in the impact of education and collaboration on community resilience.

Another defining moment came when I was involved in a mental health ministry at my church. A young mother reached out, feeling overwhelmed raising her children alone after a recent loss. I offered support by listening, connecting her with resources, and inviting her to community gatherings. Over time, I saw her flourish—she became an active participant in church activities and eventually started helping others in similar situations. This experience highlighted the importance of compassion and the ripple effect that service can have on individuals and families.

These stories are just a glimpse into my journey, a journey defined by a commitment to faith, family, and service that continues to shape my life and the lives of those I touch.
